SQL Server 2008 R2 and its core features

The CTP of SQL Server 2008 R2, which is the next version of SQL Server 2008 was released in November 2009.  There are several reasons that this release of SQL Server is important for you:

• A number of Business Intelligence capabilities of SharePoint 2010 require SQL Server 2008 R2.  This includes the highly publicized Power Pivot for Excel and SharePoint.
• SQL Server 2008 R2 provided an integrated Master Data Management (MDM) module as part of the release

Taxonomy in SharePoint 2010

Microsoft has made significant improvements in SharePoint 2010 in the area of Taxonomy and Document Management.  These features should allows companies with advanced document management needs to take a serious look at SharePoint 2010 for meeting their requirements.  Below is a summary of some of the core features in the area of Taxonomy Management:

• Ability to centrally manage taxonomy
• Ability to browse document libraries using a taxonomy
• Ability to apply hierarchical meta data to content in a document library

Netwoven readiness for SharePoint 2010

Netwoven consultants both here in the United States and the global development center in India prepare for SharePoint 2010.  We are quite excited about the feature set in SharePoint 2010 and its fit with Netwoven's competencies.
