Emblematically, DevOps is the perfect synthesis of development and operations, two groups with historically competing concerns which resulted in both an adversarial relationship as well as dramatically impeded the delivery of IT value to the business. Building on the earlier transition from traditional waterfall SDLC (software development lifecycle) process, on to agile methodologies and frameworks, DevOps brought the two groups together, while maintaining the needed separation of concerns, and tool enabling the agile process resulting in improved cross-functional collaboration, shared trust, and overall delivery agility and speed. As quoted from Gartner:

DevOps is essentially a culture for seamlessly integrating the process of software development with IT operations. More importantly, the meaning of DevOps has broadened to become an umbrella term for the processes, culture, and mindset used to shorten the software development life cycle, using fast feedback loops to deliver features, fixes, and updates more frequently.

Unifying our delivery philosophy across teams and customers provides for better communication, collaboration, and shared ownership for delivery quality and outcomes. It also allows us organizationally to build confidence through competency over time, thereby improving the overall delivery ethos shared by our team members as they move through their journey at Netwoven. The four fundamental components of leveraging the DevOps philosophy in our delivery processes are as follows:

1. Netwoven’s Delivery Execution Process (Hybrid Methodology)
2. Agile Framework (SCRUM) for Iteration (Sprint) planning and Ritual
3. FDD (Functional Design Document) as Single Contract that forms the Commitment between Product/Customer/Architect and Delivery team(s)
4. Azure DevOps Toolchain (Epics, Features, Stories, Tasks, Bugs, SCM, Pipelines, etc)
